We will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore July 12-15th and was wondering what some of the more popular bars/hangouts are both in Fells Point and in the inner harbor. Also I noticed water taxis are only available till 11pm, is normal taxi service available if we wanted to head to Fells point? If so is it a long drive?

Here is a guide to Fells Point that will answer many of your questions:

http://www.fellspointghost.com/guide.html

My favorite bars in Fells Point are Wharf Rat, Friends, Dudas, John Steven, and One Eyed Mike's. These are more divey type places. If you are a beer lover, go to Max's. If you want upscale try the bar at Pazo. Peters Inn has a nice bar (no smoking). Bertha's is very cozy and often has live jazz (also non smoking). Cat's Eye has live music but their beers are expensive.

You will be able to get a land taxi very easily. They hang out on the side of the Fells Point Square near the water.

How about bars/pubs in the Inner Harbor area?

those are pretty touisty and I rarely go there, but if you MUST, I'd go to James Joyce (Irish Bar) in Inner Harbor East. They have very good Guiness and fish and chips. Also, there is a HUGE bar complex near the Inner Harbor called Power Plant Live. If you are in your 20's this is a good place to go:

The stuff in the Inner Harbor proper really isn't worth mentioning- cheese cake factory, hooters, hard rock cafe, you get the picture?

There are also some good bars if you walk up St. Paul/Light street into the Federal Hill neighborhood ( you could stumble home from there to your hotel). Mothers Grille, which is more of a scene, the Ropewalk or, for a more local/pub experience, Porters (check out this City Paper review:

www.citypaper.com/bob/story.asp?id=1221

You can definitely find taxis from Fells Point and it is the best place for a "pub crawl" since there are tons of bars right next to each other.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. Im sure we will stay as close to the park and our hotel as possible, so maybe we can check out Fells Point during the day, that would probably make the most sense. Then hit up the bars after the ballgame.

I'd do the opposite - I'd go to the Federal Hill area during the day and save Fells Point for the evening. You can take the water taxi over to Fells Point and get a regular taxi back (it's maybe 10 minutes at most by car). The bars named by Charmcity are some of the best bars in Baltimore (of course it depends on what you're looking for - they're the best if you want a real bar as opposed to a "scene" or a club).

I love Howl at the moon at Power Plant Live. It can get a little crowded in that area but the bar with dueling pianos is a blast!

Also, Canton is pretty much adjacent to Fells Point and there are quite a few good bars there (I have heard).I've never really hung out there, so maybe some of the others on this board will have some Canton bar suggestions for you. You could easily hit Canton and Fells Point in one night (walk between them along the water- it is a gorgeous walk).

i agree, hit up one eyed mikes, duda's and duclaw brewery. pazo as well, all in a few blocks. pizza from BOP is amazing and you'll love the area. water taxi will take you right to the main square.

the drive is not long but during rush hour a 10 min ride could be 45 min or longer. what are your ages?
