Unfortunately, there is nothing special around Baymeadows/Philips. Not a good area, as far as touristy stuff/good food/walking/etc.

Brunch (meaning weekend only..they don't serve breakfast during the week):

1) Restaurant Orsay (http://www.restaurantorsay.com/)--great duck hash!

2) Black Sheep (http://blacksheep5points.com/)--great Southern fare!

3) Taverna (http://www.tavernasanmarco.com/home.html)--great breakfast pizzas!

4) Derby on Park (http://derbyonpark.net/brunch)--great down home cooking, with a flare!

Breakfast (served everyday of the week):

1) Metro Diner (http://metrodiner.com/)--probably Jacksonville's most famous breakfast spot, featured on the FoodNetwork!

2) Bold Bean Coffee Roasters (http://www.boldbeancoffee.com/)--pastries, scones, breads, danishes, etc!

If you have not been here and like coffee, GO!!!!!! A mile and a half better than any Starbucks.

(see #2 above--Bold Bean!)

You can also try.....

1) The Fox in Avondale (breakfast 7 days a week): www.yelp.com/biz/fox-restaurant-jacksonville

2) The Cool Moose Cafe (breakfast 6 days a week--no Mondays): http://www.coolmoosecafe.net/

I'm partial to Cool Moose...but the Fox does well in a pinch, too.

Thanks... Tempted with cool moose, right next to a comic store I have been to before.

Bold bean sounds great... I love coffee. Although seems light on breakfast.

Metro diner sounds interesting menu too.

Unfortunately I fly into Jacksonville Saturday night (from England, uk) Sunday is a free day.... Then work Monday to Friday and fly back to England again.

I always stay on baymeadows road and basically sick of hotel breakfast so wanted to try something different on the Sunday.

As a side question Is there much to walk around on the riverside area near cool moose?

Thanks.

Riverside is "the" area to be in Jacksonville now. There's hipsters on skateboards, tattoo parlors, and comic book stores. But, that's not all--it's not a homogenous community. There are also million dollar mansions, soccer moms, and it's fair share of Mercedes/BMWs. It's a great mixed-use community. It has it all. It's probably the only part of Jacksonville that is truly walkable to things that matter--urban grocery store, independent movie theatre, ethnic food, local coffee roasting, local beer brewing, etc. So, to answer your question, yes, there is stuff to walk to. 5 Points to Stockton Street (where Bold Bean is) is 4 blocks. Stockton Street to King Street is 4 blocks (where Cool Moose is). By the way, the area of Riverside where Cool Moose is located is called the Park & King District (it's where all the bars are)...

Bold Bean is fantastic. Easily one of the best coffeeshops in the country (in fact, they were just up in NYC competing for the "Best Coffeeshouse in America"...it's light on breakfast in the sense nothing is made to order, but I'm telling you: one of their homemade cheddar-bacon scones will keep you full at least until lunch (open 8 a.m. on Sundays, 6:30 a.m., M-F).

Cool Moose has some of the best corned beef hash I've had outside of the Northeast. Not from a can, made fresh daily.

Park at Cool Moose. Then, yes, you can walk to Bold Bean. You may want to do the reverse though. Have your coffee or take it to go and walk towards Cool Moose (that would mean parking on Stockton). Just remember: those 4 blocks to and from are just a small piece of the larger area. If you want to explore the area more, check out Avondale, 5 Points, and Memorial Park www.yelp.com/biz/memorial-park-jacksonville

The Village Bread Cafe. There's a location on Phillips Hwy & also on on Southside Blvd by Baymeadows. Excellent breakfast & lunch.

I'm a huge fan of Metro Diner - we eat there at least once a month. The ever-changing specials list offers some interesting things. Be prepared for a wait for a table, but outside on the patio is first come first served. And Village Bread is also a staple in our dining out list. If you want to head out to the beach, then the most famous breakfast place is The Beach Hut on 3rd Street. Their pancakes are to die for. Their French toast is too.

FYI - the Riverside/Avondale suggestions will require some time driving - apx 30 minutes each way. There is construction on the roads which can slow you down.
