We are leaving Orlando Sunday night and headed for Charlote, N.C.. We are thinking about driving to Jacksonville and stopping for the night. It will be after midnight before we get there and we need to know where to stop for the night. Any suggestions about where to stay that is safe and has a lobby open after midnight. Thanks
Any hotel right off of the Interstate exits will have someone on duty all night and usually the hotels at the exits are safe.
If you take I-295 that goes around the West side of Jacksonville there are a Comfort Inn, Country Inn & Suites and a Holiday Inn at exit 22.
If you don't want to go that far then at exit 335 on I-95 there are a Hampton Inn and a Marriott Courtyard.
Stay at the Holiday Inn Baymeadows on I-295. ( http://is.gd/hi_baymeadows ) I stayed there in April. it's a nice, new hotel at the Baymeadows Road Exit, right next to the exit off I-295. There's not a lot of heavy traffic in this area so you can get on & off quickly. Read the tripadvisor reviews as well, they are 100% accurate: http://is.gd/hijx_reviews . You'll find a lot of the hotels in Jacksonville have housekeeping issues, but not this one, everything was nice, new & clean.

JIA, Jacksonville International Airport, is on Interstate 95 just north of the city of Jacksonville. (And just north of where Interstate 295 meets 95.) There are lots of inexpensive hotels around the JIA exit. Just get off I-95 going in the direction of the airport and you will find them. Take your pick. There is also a 24 hour Denny's restaurant right there in case you are hungry.
Pick up one of the hotel coupon books at one of your rest stops on the way up and get a discount on a hotel room.
