Thanksgiving in Jacksonville |
|
We are planning on having Thanksgiving dinner in the Jacksonville area, and are looking for something a little different in the are of UNF or the beaches. Any great suggestions? Turkey is fine, but it doesn't have to be traditional. Thanks, Kpwall |

kpw - can't really help you with the beaches - the only place I know that is offering Thanksgiving is Casa Marina. There aren't many restaurants near UNF. Within 10 - 12 miles of UNF is River City Brewing Company, located on the river in downtown Jax, which offers a buffet of traditional Thanksgiving dishes plus seafood, roast beef and many salads, sides and desserts. Also you may want to check out Sterlings on St. Johns Ave. in Avondale for a quieter atmosphere with plated dinner. Those are the only two I have personal knowledge. Hopefully some beaches folks will chime in.

Thought of one more at the beach - The Homestead. They are offering Thanksgiving buffet for $24.00 pp. They have new owners and I haven't dined there since they took over, so I have no personal knowledge of the quality of the meals. Used to be one of my favorites.

I just moved in town from the beach, so I think I can be of some help for the area you are looking for. Try 11 South Bistro www.elevensouth.com in South Jax Beach. It is my favorite out there. I would think they are doing something for Thanksgiving. Sorry Trixie, The Homestead used to be a great place for homestyle cooking, but unfortunately it is no longer. The new owners can't decide what kind of restaurant they want to be, and prior to them taking over we went and had terrible service and under-cooked chicken. It's sad because they once had the best biscuits in town.

Go to St. Augustine and have Thanksgiving Dinner at the Columbia Restaurant right in the middle of the village. $18.95 for a special turkey entree with all the trimmings. This restaurant stays open on holidays and has the same great menu and prices as every other day of the year. It is probably 30 miles from UNF but you would have a very special Thanksgiving. And if you stay in St. Augustine until after dark you can see this delightful historic town lighted for the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving, Spirit

KPw, Spirit and Trixie hit the nails on the head alot of good suggestions ! Hate to hear about the Plantation I remember it .. many yrs ago I think ( for me) I think I remember its location is it still just across the intercoastal waterways Bridge or just before it on the left if coming from the Beaches? Always thought that was a great location for a restaurant or has it moved?
