I have to recommend the Farnsworth House one - everytime I go I do that one , it's different stories each time, and it's spooky as all get out. There are two they do - go for the cellar one if you can only do one. They primarily tell stories about the house and they're bone chilling and they ain't paying me to write this either. I just went to one last mo, and planning to go to another in a week (go to Gettysburg a bit). If you like ghosts, stay there sometime if you can the original section of the house its seriously haunted (ask for the Sara Black room) and very cool for that sort of thing. (If you don't like to get spooked , ask for the new suites - they're a bit more but beautiful and romantic w/hot tubs and no ghosts etc).
The best tour hands down is the Ghosts of Gettysburg tour which originates from the corner of Baltimore Street and Breckenridge. They have three tours that you can choose from and each tour has two time slots per night. I've been on their Baltimore Street tour twice and the Seminary tour once, both were great. By far the best tour of theirs that I've been on is the Carlisle Street/Campus tour. This definitely has some of the scarier stories, including the ghostly hospital in Penn Hall and the "Blue Boy" of Stevens Hall. Whatever you do, pick a tour that'll let you see more of the town than just the basement of the Farnsworth House...I think you'd be missing out otherwise. Or, better yet, do both!
Definitely go to the Farnsworth House Mourning Theater in the cellar. You will not be disappointed. They also have a Mature Tour that runs very late at night and takes you onto a piece of the battlefield after the cellar stories. Both are great! When my husband and I stayed at the Farnsworth last October, we took a few ghost tours in the area and none of them could compare to the Mourning Theater. They also offer an attic tour of the Confederate post which is supposed to be good, but we were so tired from a lack of sleep (we stayed in the old part of the house!) that we missed that one. We will definitely catch it next time.
Personally I like the Comedy Ghost Tour just adjacent to the Farnsworth House on Baltimore Street. They walk you around town telling jokes and a guy in a sheet follows you. It's really a hoot. Not for serious ghosthunters.
I took one of the tours on Baltimore St I think last Halloween. It was so busy with traffic and booming stereos from kids cruising it really detracted from the whole experience. There were a couple times we got far enough from the street where you could actually hear the tour guide and concentrate. The guide was older and didn't speak very loud. The stories I could hear were OK but not very spine chilling. I will definitely try the Farnsworth Inn tour next time. I have heard good stories about that place. Plus they have good food too.
I am going to Gettysburg in mid October and am also looking for a good ghost tour. What tour did you end up going on and how was it? Also, I was looking into doing a haunted bus tour that is put on by Gettysburg Battlefield Tours. Has anyone had any experience with this one?
We did the Jennie Wade tour through Ghostly Images. It was awesome! Best attraction in Gettysburg! I've heard the Ghosts of Gettysburg is horrible so I didn't waste my time or money.
The Blue Moon Ghostly Trolley Tour is a'lot of fun. Does anyone know if they still have the comedy ghost tour? I've never been on that tour. It sounds funny.
I also enjoyed the Farnsworth House tours. We had a great guide and he let us try the downsing rods and was engaging for the whole tour.
The cellar stories were fun but the second time we went I was not crazy about the story teller.
Ghostly Images of Gettysburg had tours that take you inside a haunted building. (jennie Wade or the old orphanage) I have done both and they are both good.
Stay away from the Ghost Bus Tour they offer in the fall. It was a lott of riding and you only got out twice. Once was Saks covered bridge which I did enjoy and the other stop was the parking lot of an inn. It was kind of a dull night.
We did the Original Ghost Tour last year and it was very good, however last night we did a ghost hunt out of the Farnsworth House, you get to hang out in the mourning cellar as the guide instructs you on usage of equipment, then you get to go out on a ghost hunt in the field by the school. It was fabulous, lots of unexplained things going on. Highly recommended!
