FYI~

There are over 6,000 reenactors set to participate at this years 150th Gettysburg National Reenactment on July 4, 5, 6, & 7, with thousands more expected! That is more than three times the number of reenactors for a normal Gettysburg event.

Just received this message, FYI ~ ..................................................................Just left a very in depth planning meeting for the 150th Gettysburg Anniversary National Civil War Battle Reenactment. As of close of business Thursday, we have a total of 6,126 registered reenactors, as well as a pile of registration forms that need to be entered into the computer and more coming in every single day. Let's think about that number for a minute. That means over 6,126 people have taken the time to fill out the registration form, write a check and mail it all in or registered via the website. These people have committed to coming to our event in a very definite way. I'm not talking about people that said they were going to register, people that are supposed to register or people that promised they are going to register. I'm talking about cold, hard numbers of people that have registered. That also includes over 120 full size artillery pieces, 60+ Federal guns and 60+ Confederate guns. Over 182 horses registered as well. Our numbers grow everyday. Forget the hype, this event is by reenactors, for reenactors and our numbers prove it.

The 150th Gettysburg Anniversary National Civil War Battle Reenactment winter planning session was truly a team effort from start to finish. Everyone in attendance was excited about their ability to have a say in how we run this event. Both generals have been flooded with emails and phone calls since the meeting. The level of enthusiasm is incredible. One confederate Reenactor wrote "For the first time in my 25 years of reenacting, the organizers of a "National" event reached out to the reenacting community and asked for their input. The Commanding Generals are to be commended on your love of the hobby, and your dedication to the Reenactor. I heard nothing but good remarks and comments coming from the others in attendance. I personally had the chance to see old friends and make many more new ones, even some Yankees. I for one have never been this excited to be part of such a great event." Looking for something to do before or after this years 150th Gettysburg Anniversary National Civil War Battle Reenactment, held July 4,5,6 and 7?

Check out the new GNMP Visitor Center and Museum exhibit, "Treasures of the Civil War." It will feature rare Civil War artifacts that provide links to leaders of the Civil War era, including Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, George G. Meade, Frederick Douglass and Clara Barton.

The exhibit will be included with the admission price to the Visitor Center and Museum.

Jack, you could fly into Baltimore-Washingto (BWI) and rent a car to drive to Gettysburg for the 90 minute drive. Dulles (IAD) is also an easy drive up Rt 15, also about 90 minutes. That's the easy part, finding accomodations will be the tough part. The Visitrs & Convention bureau may be of some help. Worth calling them to see. http://www.gettysburg.travel/

JackS134 ~ MikeT's post is great advise, The Convention & Visitors Bureau is extremely helpful to callers, keep in mind however, you should NEVER post your phone # on this site for the public to view. You can use the Private message feature to contact any TA member! Philadelphia airport is another option via Southwest Airlines, a bit farther, but not too bad as a 2nd choice to use Vouchers, if you can't fly into Baltimore/Washington DC. Please feel free to send a message if you need any more assistance, or have any other questions. Enjoy Gettysburg!
