Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Mela in New York ?

I'd like a review. I'm looking for a smallish boutique style hotel .. good quality and great service. Willing to pay for it but don't want to spoil a 5 day break with mediocre accomodation.

Anyone got a view?

Alas, there are no reviews because its opening has been postponed (more than once) so no one has yet stayed there

....and on photos, rooms look very small to me. The Rockefeller Center hotel is relatively new. The Bryant Park hotel and the Library are other smallish hotels in that area. The Iroquois, the Chambers and City Club are also worth checking.

Unfortunately we have been delayed in opening due to construction issues. Our rooms are actually nice and smartly formatted. We have rooms ranging from 157 - 850 sq ft. I invite the local experts on this site to stop by and complete a site inspection.

David,

Thanks for responding. Can you tell us when the opening is? Also, are you notifying guests that booked reservations that you aren't opening on time? That was a complaint made by some posters on this board...that they either didn't find out in a timely manner or weren't notified at all.

It would be good for us to know what your policy is. Good luck and I hope things are running soon.

We have since closed out the year due to the uncertainty of the target date. We are waiting on one last componant which is certification. To answer your question we have contacted as many guests that we could as you must remember people book through various channels such Travelocity, Hotwire etc. We are unable to call these guests directly due to a confidentality agreements.

Well, have you asked Travelocity, Hotwire, Expedia, etc. to help you contact those people?

They are doing their part but it sometimes is difficult for them to contact the guests as it is done via email. First consumers sometimes do not check their personal emails for days at a time. In addition we are compensating guests in various forms from percentage off to complimentary stays depending on each situation. We have had a great response from about 90% of the guests that were suppose to stay with us.

Being the point man amidst unfortunate circumstances beyond your personal control is surely an uneviable position, David. Hope it's soon smooth sailing for guests -- and the staff!!

Thank you so much for the positive comment. You are correct this is no fun and quite delicate. We're in the business to take care of guests and enrich their NYC experience. Unfortunately we are unable to provide these things as this is out of our control (the certification). I do believe however that when we do finally open for business that it will knock the socks off of people. We are not your typical boutique hotel. We are going for comfort of an upscale NY apartment with soothing color schemes, extra comfortable beds, state of the art technology and fantastic guest services.

Our restaurant opens in March which will be vietnamese-french fusion.

I've plenty of respect for you coming onto the forum and explaining what is happening. I'm not sure that many people would have taken that step.

Hopefully people will take you up on the offer to look around.

We are looking forward to our visit next year.
