Please leave very early AM Saturday. Muncie is more than 12 hours not counting stops. I know it's an extra hotel night and meals, but can you possibly do some driving on Friday?
Also: if you and the family are exhausted and get going the crack of dawn Sunday, people will be dragging and not fully enjoying. It's 100% your call--just want you to have the best time ever!
The rest is a little detailed, but you want to coordinate things closely because you don’t have a lot of time. Just one person’s ideas:
1. Do Brooklyn—the next trip.
2. If check in is 4:00 PM Sunday, consider approximately where would you like to sleep Saturday night? Manhattan? Elsewhere? [You can check your bags with the bellman before, park your car, start touring, and formally check in when during the day it is convenient for you.]
3. Why not take the Circle Line DOWNTOWN TOUR—1/2 of the full tour, consisting of 1.5 hours, passing the SOL and going under the Brooklyn Bridge--early Sunday (people can sleep if they want—or take the next boat if the time can get you to Times Square before TKTS opens). [Then shopping in the Times Square area, followed by lining up early at the TKTS booth in Times Square before the window opens. Work in Rockefeller Center including an NBC studio tour, taping of a live performance, skating, see art deco, gourmet snack at Boulud on the Plaza level, and TOTR (dusk). [If you get Newsies tickets for the matinee, work in skating and an abbreviated Rockefeller Center. In the evening, you can see the Broadway/Times Square lights after Newsies.]
4. To have the best chance to see Newsies, be flexible and take it the first day you can get discounts—if it works with your schedule--and have sports events follow. Then you can choose to go full price if you want at an adjoining TKTS window (if there are tickets), or try again the next performance. Based on recent sales, you have a very good chance of getting discounted Newsies tickets if you go early. [Bear in mind that Newsies has performances Sunday at 3:00, and Monday (uusual) and Tuesday in the early evening. http://newsiesthemusical.com/ticket?gclid=CJOouML9-7sCFYNxOgodmlUAaw]
But you may not want to do Newsies Sunday so you don't lost daylight hours, and also want a special event for the evening.
Have a wonderful trip! Please keep us in the loop as you plan.
