Midtown / Waldorf Area - Restaurant Suggestions

I have looked over the forums and restaurant lists here on TA. A bit overwhelmed. Any suggestions for the following types of restaurants in the area of the Waldorf:

-Moderate Priced Breakfast Place (would like to be less than $10- $15 pp)

- Moderate Dinner Place (looking for a true local place - maybe a great deli/diner - would like to be $20 or under pp)

- Total Celebration - Money No Object Dinner Place (Not concerned about price but want to have good food & service)

Thanks in advance for your help!

The Smith for moderate dinner. Also a popular brunch spot. Take a look at Avra as well.

For your splurge you have great Japanese in that area. Yasuda for sushi, Sakagura for authentic non-sushi. Or take a short cab ride or a nice stroll to Marea

Sarah, just a heads up that the area around the Waldorf is pretty corporate. There are plenty of options for breakfast along Lexington ave. (the rear entrance of the Waldorf) serving the office buildings and other hotels in the area both eat in and take out.

will be very helpful to you. The hotel is in the east 50's but not far from the east 40's too. For a sit down kind of place with eggs, pancakes etc. if you look at diners and coffee shops you get this list which I've put in order of highest star ratings (ratings done mostly by locals)

The first place listed, NY Luncheonette on 50th st. between Lex & 3rd is supposed to be very good and it's very close. Midtown restaurant and the Palace are also good. A NYC institution is Ess-A-Bagel over on 3rd ave. & 51 st. They serve cafeteria style (you get your own food at the counter) but will also do hot things like eggs.

The W New York hotel is literally across from the back door (lexington ave.) of the Waldorf. I notice the restaurant inside the W, Heartbeat, gets high marks.

For a fancier breakfast, the Brasserie in the Seagrams building is one idea.

The Smith which started as a downtown neighborhood restaurant has opened in midtown on 2nd ave. (not far) and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Would probably be more than your $20 but could work if you order carefully.

Some other ideas for a moderate dinner

PJ Clarke's on 3rd ave. & 55th st. is historic and a NYC institution. Not cheap, but for a burger it would work.

There's an Irish pub on 2nd ave. called Pig N' Whistle that's supposed to have good food.

Mimi's is a quirky very local Italian restaurant with a quirky piano player. The food is just ok but the music makes for a sometimes wacky/fun evening.

For a big celebration, really big, Per Se...maybe in their lounge area. This is the most expensive restaurant in the city but also the most amazing food (I'm told ;). People go wanting to find fault and can't. There are no shortage of fabulous restaurants when money is no object. It would help to narrow options if we knew what kind of food you'd prefer, ambiance etc.
