Roosevelt Field is not the easiest mall to reach via public transportation. You would have to take a LIRR train from Penn Station to Mineola, then transfer to a bus. There are several bus lines that go from the train station to the mall. Go to mta.info and look at the Long Island bus map for details.

Unless you absolutely must go to that particular mall for some reason, you might want to consider visiting other malls that are easier to reach. Jersey Gardens, for example, is an easy bus ride from the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Queens Center is a half hour subway ride away.

Mineola is a main station on the LIRR with many trains to and from it on an hourly basis. There are also several cab companies that service the station and Roosevelt Field Mall is about 5 minutes away. If you have to go there, I would take the LIRR from Penn Station to Mineola and grab a cab. I'm sure the cab company will give you a phone number and you can call them for the return trip. Check out LIRR schedules on at line:

I frequently park at Roosevelt Field and enter near Macys ( and the Apple Store) There always seem to be a line of cabs outside.

Note: Cabs on Long Island are NOT the same as cabs in NYC. They are all flat rate. Inquire before you get in.

Also, you wrote you are going becauses of Bloomingdales. Why not just go to Bloomies Flagship store in Manhattan. Roosevelt Field located in Nassau charges sales tax on clothes ( even if it is UNDER $110) Now I realize not many items in Bloomies are--but why not save on the few items that are.

I think that the White Plains mall MAY be closer to the train station than Roosevelt Field is to any train station. But you might consider going to the Mall at Short Hills in New Jersey. There is no sales tax on clothing in New Jersey (there will be on Long Island and in White Plains) and I think it's a nicer mall. There's also a Neiman Marcus there which is a very nice store. (There's one in White Plains too). The Short Hills mall is directly across from a Hilton Hotel. Ask in the NY Hilton how to get there.

I agree with rdglady - go to the flagship store. It's not on the parade route; it's a few blocks away. Roosevelt Field is a long way out of the way just to avoid a crowd.

I also don't think you need to leave the city b/c of the parade. But if you want to get out of the city, I'd go to Short Hills (or somewhere else in NJ) or White Plains before I'd go to Roosevelt Field.

There is no need to leave Manhattan on St. Patrick's Day. Just stay away from the parade route (Fifth Avenue from 42 to 86 Streets). The main Bloomingdale's in Manhattan has five times the merchandise of any of the branch stores.
