Take the Airtrain from JFK to the Jamaica train station and then the E train to the station at W.34th St.

Or

Airtain to th Howard Beach station and the A train to the W. 34th Street station.

Either way the cost is $7

That assumes you don't have much luggage and you're not traveling during rush hour. YOu can also take the Express Airport bus to Penn station (west 34 st.) for $15/person.

All the options are here. Just remember Penn station which is where a lot of these transport options let out is on west 34 st.

is one suitcase per person considered a lot of luggage to carry on a bus/train?

No, but using the subway, you often have to climb stairs. With heavy luggage that can be a problem. The Express Airport Bus is designed for people with luggage. The regular subway (esp. during rush hour) is not.

Where abouts are you staying as the bus stops three places, at Grand Central Station Park Avenue between 41st & 42nd, Port Authority Bus terminal 42nd and 8th Ave and then Penn Station 33rd and 7th Ave, it $15 one way $27 return, transfers are available to hotels between 27th & 63rd St from the Grand Central stop.

Thanks Saral,

We are staying on W 54th st, near 7th Ave.

I am thinking it might be just as handy to get taxi there?

I believe there's a flat rate of $45 from JFK to midtown manhattan. Plus tip of course. (do check the rate as I personally dont use this service).

I think far less stress to just get a cab.

But I dont believe there's a flat rate from Midtown TO JFK. You will pay the regular rates.

Someone pls correct me if I am wrong - thank!

Karenjene is mistaken -- the flat rate of $45 now applies BOTH going from JFK to Manhattan, AND going from Manhattan to JFK. On top of that, you have to pay any bridge or tunnel toll (which if a toll bridge or tunnel is used will be $4) plus a tip - which will be a minimum of 15% of the $45. 15% of $45 is $6.75 -- so figure on the whole cost of a cab as being somewhere between $56 and $60 if a toll tunnel or bridge is used. That fare is per ride, not per person -- so for two people, divide it in halves, or for three people, each would pay one third.

When you have more than one person, the taxi fare starts getting quite competitive pricewise with the bus or the train -- and it is VASTLY more convenient to take a taxi.
