Places to Go & Eat with kids (9 & 3)

Rented a house in Newton, staying 7/28 through 8/2. Would appreciate restaurant ideas (we like Italian but with the kids don't venture beyond Chinese or Thai) and family things to do.

We plan on hitting the St. Agrippina di Mineo Feast, so any restaurants in that area would be great. I have heard about Mike's pastry so that is a definite.

I know we'll do the Aquarium, Children's Museum, and I think I read about a Science museum as well. We love traveling to the smaller maybe less tourist attractions so those would be greatly appreciated as well. We plan on using public transportation as much as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Food near the Aquarium: Legal Seafoods, City Landing (looks fancy, but they are great w/ kids!), Quincy Market, Wagamama (Japanese noodle bar) & various food trucks.

cityofboston.gov/foodtrucks/schedule-tabs.asp (look for trucks near the Greenway)

Food near the Children's Museum: Au Bon Pain (attached to museum), Flour Bakery, Bees Knees, food trucks or Chinatown for dim sum or soup dumplings.

If the weather is nice, I love walking around the Seaport area. Yankee Lobster Co. is very causal & has excellent, fresh seafood. Awesome lobster rolls :) Other casual seafood spots are The Barking Crab & Summer Shack.

Summer Shack is in Cambridge and Back Bay, not Seaport. Where are you staying in Newton? There are a number of family friendly places there.

You're correct. I should have clarified that Summer Shack is a casual seafood spot on Dalton street in the Back Bay not too far from Copley Square. The Cambridge location is waaaaay out of the tourist area completely so I would not recommend. Other casual options in Back Bay include: Boloco, Parish Cafe, Rebecca's Cafe, Copley Square Farmer's Market (Tues & Fri), Papa Razzi (Italian), Joe's Grill & various food options in the Prudential Center & Copley Mall.

We're on Arlington, but beyond that I am still getting my bearings!

What do you mean "on Arlington"? Arlington Street, Newton? Do you plan on driving into Boston? if I am seeing things correctly on Google maps, it is near the Mass Pike (route 90), but not all that close to a subway station.

Will you have a car or will you be relying on public transportation. (Bus to subway)?
