 Proposal Ideas in Boston

I'm will be surprising my girlfriend with a trip to Boston on St. Patrick's Day, through the weekend. I plan on proposing to her that evening. However, I'd rather not propose in a restraunt. Would anyone know of romantic locations within a short distance of Boston Common.

Also, I've checked out many luxury hotels online, but if anyone has recommendations that would be great. We'll be staying with friends for the rest of the weekend, but on Thursday, I'd like to stay downtown for around $300.

Thanks for your help.

It's be pretty cold if you wanted somewhere outside, but if you don't want a run of the mill restaurant to propose in, you could always try Finales- they only serve the most divine desserts and champagne, it has a nice atmosphere. Good Luck, I hope she says YES!!

St. Pattys Day in Boston can be pretty chilly. One of my favorite hotels is the Long Wharf Marriott. It sits right on Boston Harbor, has many wonderful walking destinations and can be very romantic. Boston is a very walkable city!

Have you checked out Charles Street Inn in Beacon Hill? We've got a reservation in a few months, but have not stayed yet. There are good user reviews however. Rooms have fireplaces and whirlpools tubs- sounds romantic. They have a good website.

It's tough to think of romantic spots worthy of a marriage proposal in March... I would suggest the Boston Gardens, but of course it's going to be way too cold for that sort of thing.

Perhaps you could take her to a nice dinner in the downtown area, and walk to the North End for some caffe and cannolis...then walk to the Christopher Columbus Park, which overlooks the Boston Harbor and is right next to the Marriott Long Wharf. You should have a nice view of the water, and also the Quincy Market/Financial District area... could be a romantic setting for the big question!

Good luck!

There are a ton of places to stay for less than $300.

The Lenox Hotel on Boylston St. is around $230/night (newly rennovated) www.lenoxhotel.com

Jury's Hotel on Berkley St. is about $200/night (brand new hotel) www.jurys-boston-hotels.com/jurys_boston

Nine Zero Hotel on Termont St. (boutique style hotel) www.ninezero.com

The Park Plaza on Boylston St. www.bostonparkplaza.com

Good luck & congratulations!

It is a little to cold to propose outside in March. I know that you don't want a restaraunt, by I would suggest the lounge at the top of the Prudential building. I think it is called the top of the Hub, it is a beautiful view of Boston, you could order a bottle of wine, a little cheese and a great evening.

How about a dinner cruise? You may even want to propose on ship! You would need to have a plan B in case the weather is very bad. I did a quick search on the internet and it looks like there are a couple of companies that do this. One I found is: www.odysseycruises.com. Looks very nice and It sure would be memorable!

Congratulations in advance!

It might be redundant to propose marriage while inside a church, but why not! There's a number of beautiful and historic old churches in town: Arlington Street Church (right across from the Public Garden), Trinity Church in Copley Square, Old North Church...Those three and more are open to the public. I bet if you talked to somebody at one of them, they'd be into "conspiring" with you and would agree to perhaps set the stage by arranging a "private guided tour" at a reasonable hour.

Mid-March in Boston can surprise with pleasant weather, not much different (I'd suspect) than Minnesota. The huge St Patrick's Day parade here, always held on the Sunday closest to March 17th, rarely has rain or cold interfere. If you luck out with the temperature - since rain can be romantic - there's a strip of parkland along the river, called the Esplanade. As sunset approaches, walk along there until you find a bench or grassy area that allows for a sweeping view westward. Or start crossing the Longfellow Bridge (between Mass. General Hospital and Cambridge) or the Harvard Bridge (on Mass. Ave between the Back Bay and MIT.) Those are lengthy spans which also offer panoramic vistas of the city skyline and the day's end. Uh...don't try a bridge if there's a chance she could scream and knock the ring into the river!

Christopher Columbus Park is also a great suggestion for that "by the water" effect.

You realize that by posting here you're going to have to check in again on the 18th?

Wow,

Ok, thank you for all the great ideas. I'm still working out the details, but I'll definitely post the "results".

While I really want everything to go well, I'm just hoping she says yes. :-)
