Hole in the Wall Restaurants |
|
Can anyone give me any recommendations of little, out of the way, not expensive restaurants with good food that the locals go to? I hear alot of the upscale restaurants but I want some advice on smaller places of any type of ethnic variety. I like all kinds of foods! |
|
There are a couple of Thai places in Brighton/Brookline - Rod Dee in Coolidge Corner and Bangkok Bistro in Cleveland Circle. Both fantastic and inexpensive. There's also a Turkish place called Brookline Family Restaurant in Brookline Village and right next to it, a Chinese place called Sichuan Garden. Both are excellent and inexpensive. Finally, for breakfast and lunch, you absolutely positively cannot beat Sealey's in Brookline, right off of Rt. 9. If you want locals, you'll get them here, this is an unknown place where you'll see the same faces every single Saturday (it's closed on Sunday). I'm telling you, even if I did not live right around the corner, I'd still hop on the T every Saturday for their omelettes and club sandwiches.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! I am so excited to try these places! I have read a lot of the forums about dining but these restaurants that you all have suggested I have never heard of before. Thank you everyone for such an overwhelming response to my topic!

If you're looking for an excellent breakfast try Zafdigs in Coolidge Corner, Brookline. (Coolidge Corner stop on the C line) The place is always packed but while you wait for an hour you can check out the great little original shops in the area. I also recommend if you want to go to a perfect beer place where college students hang out--try Sunset Grille--100 + beers and amazing. John Harvard's in Harvard Square is also excellent.

I like to hit The Barking Crab on Sleeper Street on the water - great seafood - zero attitude.

Another good Hole-In-The-Wall is Remington's. It's right outside the Boylston T Stop on the Green Line. Come out of the station, cross Boylston St and go to the right about 100 yrds. They have great lunchs and the BEST French Fries I have ever had.
|
I just ate at Remington's for the first time a few weeks ago, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and price. I got a stuffed sole special and my boyfriend got the buffalo chicken sandwich and both were very good. Good value for that area, which is typically overpriced.

I second Addis Rea Sea on Tremont Street in So End if you like Indian/Ethiopean food!

Re: Grendel's Den: Keep in mind that Grendel's considers itself a bar. So they only let people in who have ID showing they're over 21 except for the outdoor seating where they don't serve alcohol (maybe just at night), and you're on your own to grab a table when someone else leaves since they don't seat people in order.
|
Grendel's Den does not serve alcohol for the outdoor seating anytime of the day. But if you can live without alcohol for one meal, I highly recommend sitting ourside. On a perfect weather, it could be one of the best.

Congrats - This was one of the best threads I have read on this forum. Great subject suggestion for any city!
