Columbus Day in Boston?

We only have one day in Boston and its next Monday, Columbus Day. We want to do a couple of the tours. Should we expect it to be a busy day, or just like a regular Monday?

I would expect it to be fairly ordinary, Columbus Day is not a state, federal or stock market holiday so every company gives it off. Might be a nice day to be in the financial district/DTX since there will be some hustle and bustle.

It is a state holiday; State offices are closed and kids have it off from school. So you may see more parents and kids than on a usual Monday. But many offices, including mine, are opened. You'll be fine.

It's one of those holidays that is mainly for those in government jobs.

For the rest of us is no daytimes street sweeping, free parking at meters (but the time limits apply.) The MBTA has a modified schedule. The subways run on a Saturday schedule. Commuter Rail & Boats are on a weekday schedule.

Here's a rundown of what is open/closed, parking information and detailed MBTA schedules. ow.ly/e9yhn

On Sundayhere is a parade in Eastie & a half marathon in Franklin Park.

A 10K will mess up traffic in the Back Bay, Cambridge, and Beacon Hill on Monday. I would guess it will also fill up the Boston Common parking garage.

School is off for the day, so the Science Musum, Children's Museum and Aquarium may be more crowded than on a usual Monday.
