We'll be in Boston October 19-23. Most of our sightseeing will be on foot in the tourist areas. Are the protestors creating a safety issue?

Not at all. You probably will never even see them.

Thanks! It will be me and my teenage daughter by ourselves, and we're not looking for trouble :), just fun in my favorite city to go play!

I think once it rains that most will be gone. There have been some issues, but late at night to very early in the morning.

They are setting up their tent cities near the Intercontinental Hotel. One cannot predict what will happen. If you have a concern, then stay away from this area.

ACB,

Don't worry about it. There are some protestors in many US cities now, calling themselves the "Occupy..." movement. Occupy Wall St. in NYC, Occupy Boston here. It's a peaceful protest, they've been camping out in tents near South Station, on a strip of park land. They pose no threat at all to anyone visiting the city. It's not like the rioting that was in London a few months ago.

They are more annoying than unsafe. They're not confrontational at all, they just stay in there tent city most of the day, then have some mini-rallys during the later part of the afternoon.

I don't think any one has anything to fear from the tent city occupants at Dewey Square. The arrests were made when people tried to set up a new camp and refused to leave. Most of the protesters are from Massachusetts and many college students join them on the weekend.

It's just a protest . . . though that may be scary to those who don't remember the 60s and 70s.

The arrests were for encamping in an area where there were fresh plantings and the city had told the demonstrators not to "spread" there. There was no violence or anything like that, so please don't make this bigger than it was.

I guess I wrote the above at the same time Ting was writing, but I wanted to corroberate everything that was said there, too.

"There have been over 100 arrests so far, so there is an element that is not so "peaceful".

Oh come now. Did you see the arrests? Or are you imagining them? This is a peaceful protest. Here, read, don't guess:
