There is a bus which goes directly from TF Green to South Station.

A car service is in the $150.00 range.

Eileen is right. It's Peter Pan bus lines that picks up right at TF Green, the airport in Providence.

Here's a link: http://www.peterpanbus.com/

You point of departure is TF Green Airp RI

and your destination would most likely be Boston-South Station.

Buses leave TF Green several times a day between 11:15am and 8:00pm and for the return trip, you can pick up a bus at South station several times a day between 8am and 6pm.

It's not a quick hop. I'm irked when they call TFGreen a Boston airport.

In addition to the buses mentioned, there's a shuttle from the airport to the Commuter Rail in downtown Providence.

This may be cheaper but would definitely take longer than the direct bus.

Total time for the bus ride should be 60-90 minuutes, depending on traffic.

TF Green Airport is located in Warwick, RI and we frequently fly out of Green so we don't have to drive to Logan. It's a much easier airport getting in/out of.

robnkellie, if you are flying into Warwick (Green), then you can 1) rent a car and drive to Boston; 2) take the train out of Kennedy Plaza, Providence; 3) taking a cab would be very expensive so not recommended; 4) take Peter Pan bus Providence to Boston.

We live about 20 min. from Green airport and just had some friends visit us from out of state. They flew into Green and stayed at the Marriott Courtyard hotel in Warwick, about 5 min. from Green. It worked out very well as they rented a car and RI was their base. We drove to Cape Cod, Newport, RI and spent a day touring Boston from RI.

It is about 50 min. drive (depending upon traffic) from Warwick into Boston but if you drive parking can be a nightmare and very expensive. We were familiar w/ Boston so it was not as difficult as if you are trying to find your way around if you are not familiar with Boston. We drove to the Cambridgeside Galleria Mall (just over the Boston line in Cambridge) and took the hop on/off trolley located in the back of the mall. If you take the trolley tour, they offer special parking rates so it cost us $3.99 for all day parking. Not a bad deal as we were parked in the garage from 10 am until about 6 pm. The trolley is a great way to see the city and you can get off at any stop and back on again. The trolleys run about every 20 min. We visted Fanueil Hall and walked to the North End for an Italian lunch. We had a great day and our friends loved it.

There are trolleys running all over Boston and you can purchase tickets right on the spot. They all pretty much take the same routes. You can also do the Duck Tour but that does not give you the opportunity to get on and off. If you really want to see Boston do the trolley tour.

Here is the Peter Pan link for the busses from Providence to South Station in Boston:

peterpanbus.com/tickets/schedules-and-fares.…

Right now they are running online specials for $8.00 pp one way. That's a great price. You can book online.

Here's the link for the trains Providence to Boston:

http://www.mbta.com/

You would want to click on the Providence/Stoughton line which takes you to Boston. You can get off at either Back Bay or South Station. Back Bay would bring you nearer to the city attractions - Prudential Center, Copley Place, etc. Read the schedule from top to Boston for the route getting off at either Back Bay or South Station. As you will see from the schedule the trains run frequently. I am not sure of the fare for the train but it looks like it would be $7.75 pp. Boston is sticker shock no matter how you get there.

Where are you staying in Providence/Warwick area? You might check w/ the hotel to see if they offer any shuttles to the Kennedy Plaza for the bus. It is only about 10 min. from the airport.

Hope this helps. I think if it were my choice, I'd go for the train, a more pleasant ride than the bus. We've done both.

50 minutes is a very conservative estimate and the chances of this happening are at night and weekends.

During the week the xway going in loses a lane from 3-7 p.m.. Traffic is backed up from the split to often South Station. This portion of the trip alone can take 30 minutes.

I should have mentioned that TF Green is less hassle than Logan. It's a much smaller airport.

It's just not that convenient to Boston by any stretch. I have friends for whom it's convenient because they live an hour south of Boston. For me, I have yet to find a deal on airfare to make the extra travel worthwhile.

It's a 10 minute taxi ride from my driveway to most of the terminals at Logan (unless traffic is heavy then it might increase to 15). I have flown out of TF Green on occassion ... but the only way the savings is enough to make the drive and parking fees worth while is when we buy tickets for all 4 family members ... for two, it's only a small amount of $$ and not worth the hassle and it's never been a savings on a single ticket. (When you add in the cost of driving/parking at TF green)

In response to eileengs2's comment about the traffic you are absolutely correct! I neglected (sorry) to mention this as we went to Boston on a Saturday so it did really take us only 50 minutes. I know the horrors of traveling during the week w/ all the traffic. However, you could still travel during the week and avoid the commuter traffic times. We have gone into Boston during the week but don't go during rush hour traffic. I would advocate taking busses or trains vs driving in Boston as many others have noted.

Also, it is true that flights may be more expensive flying out of Green vs Logan and it just depends upon where you are going to travel and how many in your party. If we do international flights then we do use Logan as it is cheaper. We also have the advantage of only living 20 min from Green so can have someone drop us off and pick us up. However, we have used the pre-flight parking services by parking our car at one of the off-sight parking lots and get shuttled to Green. It works well as it is only 5 min. drive and about half the rate for the week than parking at Logan/Revere.
