Question about Tincup

We are staying in Beaver Creek and we are thinking about going to see Tincup. Can anyone tell me how long of a drive it is to get to Tincup and is it worth it? Would St. Elmo be shorter to get to? Which is better St. Elmo or Tincup? Thanks in advance for your help.

1. Re: Question about Tincup

One route to Tincup is over Independance Pass (west of Buena Vista) to Taylor Lake, then to Tincup. Fun place and there were people living there when we visited. Interesting history. We had a 4x4 and did the jeep trail between Tincup and St Elmo.

St Elmo is easy to get to in a passenger vehicle, up an old railroad grade. St Elmo close to a ghost town, but a few folks live there. There is another area with an old cemetery and mines.

Seems like a long drive to get there, but it will be pretty. Leadville is also interesting to visit as is Fairplay.
