BART Passes or Cash?

My family of 3 will be in the Bay Area for 6 Days. We plan to use the BART to travel back and forth daily from Oakland and San Francisco. Is there a pass we can use to make our BART travel more convenient, or in this case is it better pay cash or use a credit card each time we ride? Thanks.

Why don't you tell us your budget and your dates and I would bet we can find something in the city. It may not be right downtown but it will be in a neighborhood where you can wander out at night for dinner or a final-final without worry.

And, I'll add, still live like a local. Staying at a hotel in SF and foregoing a BART commute doesn't mean you won't experience what it's like to live in SF.

The area around Oakland Airport isn't the best by any means even during the day, and especially not at night. There is only one decent restaurant (Francrsco's), which is open Mon-Sat, that isn't a Denny's type place or the grills within the Hilton.

Take the advise and look for something over in SF or down the Peninsula, unless your flying into Oakland( maybe even then)

I think it's important for everyone to consider that when people come on here and ask questions like this, they may have already booked the hotel via a non refundable method (eg, Hotwire). Hence, the feedback of "You should stay in SF", while true, may not be possible and certainly not helpful. It may be worth mentioning to some extent for others who are considering a trip to SF to be aware if they should read this, but piling on one after another with that same sentiment doesn't really help the OP.

From my experience there is no BART near OAK, you have to take the BART Bus to get to the BART. And this BART station is not a place where you want to spend anymore time than you have to

Please let us know if you have prepaid for this hotel, as I agree that you need to consider other options - if possible. The forum members are here to help you - please listen to their advice.

I'm visiting SF in October and have found the hotel prices to be higher than I expected, so I am searching for a vacation rental. There are many available and the prices can be a lot less than a hotel. For 3 people you can find a nice vacation rental for $100-$150/night.

Riding the BART is a good experience - but I wouldn't want to have to do it every day of my trip.

Even if the OP has prepaid I would advise her/him walk away and look elsewhere.

But it appears s/he has taken questions to the Oakland forum -- perhaps in an attempt to find an answer they like better: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g32810-i743-k4627275-Coliseum_BART_Station-Oakland_California.html

Good work RS!

bushflyer, please accept our apologies for getting a bit off your original question, but we are trying to help you.

If you would provide your dates and your budget, there are many people here who would love to help you with your plans. You've done the right thing by posting questions here - but please let us help.

I'm certainly no expert, but have been to San Francisco several times, always flying into OAK and using BART, I am pretty confident that you don't want to stay anywhere near the Coliseum BART station.

RamblinSal,

Did it ever occur to you that the OP or most others around the U.S. might not have the means that you or most other Bay Area residents (especially outside of Oakland particularly) have? That YOU would walk away does not mean that others have the same choice. I agree with you in spirit as to staying in SF, but if that shipped has sailed, then many folks might not be able to just book two sets of rooms.

Heck, even if the OP could afford it, maybe s/he just flat out would prefer not to and save the money. Point is, it is ultimately their choice, regardless of how many people here might be inclined to think it may not be a wise choice.
