Nob Hill Car Parks

Have booked hotel that charges $50 a day for parking. Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative for us to park ourselves. We will be spending just 3 days in the middle of a whirlwind tour of California, so suggestion of not hiring a car can not apply to us sadly.

which hotel are you at? I'm thinking there are garages on Bush St near Powell and a 24 hour garage on Bush/Stockton/Sutter Sts.

Thank you for your antipated reply- we will be staying at Mark Hopkins.

Ouch!

A cheaper alternative would be the city owned garage under Union Square, still pricey at $30 for 7-24 hours. Stockton Garage, also nearby, is $33 Here is a link for you to check:

Parking is at a premium in this area. There may be some other privately owned garages in the area, but no real bargains, most likely.

An alternative would be to park your car in a residential neighborhood, on the street, near a bus line, for the time that you are here. You can get around SF on Muni easily. If you need the car, you could "fetch it". This is inconvenient, but cheaper.

you are on top of California St. The residential parking in that area can be difficult as there are tow away zones on Sacramento, Pine and Bush during commute hours (all within three blocks of your hotel). There is a pay lot at the corner of California and Powell no in and out privileges which should be way less expensive that the Mark. Also, the Bush St garage is an option, but take note, you will be walking uphill to your hotel.

Remember, if you park on the street that you must pay close attention to all parking signs. "Towaway zone" really does mean they'll tow, and it can be a little tricky when it's towaway between certain commute hours.

I'm not sure about the prices at these parking garages (I'm pretty sure they're pricey too, but not $50 pricey), but there is a parking garage under Grace Cathedral (California and Taylor), and across the street, at the Masonic Lodge/Auditorium. They're both one block from the Mark-Hopkins. As mentioned in earlier posts, parking garages in this area aren't cheap. The cheaper ones are closer to Union Square.
