Well, we're planning a BIG trip -- our first to Maine and our first together. We are a late-40s couple who've amazingly found each other after all sorts of life circumstances, and with 5 teens and pre-teens between us, we have very little private time.
Given that, we've somehow carved out time for a 6-day getaway in July and have decide on Maine -- somewhere neither of us has ever been. we plan to fly into Manchester NH and work our way up the coast .. but Acadia is the real destination.
I've come across The Maples and enjoyed a long talk with the new owner today. He sounds great, but the only room he has available for our stay is The White Oak Suite (I think that's what it's called). It's the two-room suite, the most expensive at $165/night, but that's still cheaper than anywhere else I've found.
will the Maples be sufficiently romantic and private for two people who NEVER get enough time alone together? we primarily want quality time together -- long walks/hikes, time to talk, sit by the ocean, go exploring.
we are simple people not wowed by victorian "elegance" or flowery patterns. the Maples looks less over-decorated than most, but the suite is still a little cute (canopy bed) for me. i''d prefer something lodgey and cabiny, but realize that is not Bar Harbor.
given all that, do you folks think we'd like The Maples and that particular suite? the new owner says he plans to keep things as they were for now ... not much decorating going on at this point, he says.
thanks for any suggestions
