I hear that to get the best view at Turtle Bay you should "request" a floor above the second floor. How early should this be done? Should I call the hotel or just email...

To get the real lowdown on a hotel, when I have a special request, I always call the hotel direct.

800 number reservations will give some info but nothing like talking to the clerk behind the desk of the hotel where you want to stay.

If you see the price you want and put your name in early for a special request I would do it ASAP.

You should follow up with an email addressed/or copied to the desk clerk you talked to.

Keep in mind that all rooms are oceanview at the Turtle Bay. However, the 1st and 2nd floors might have some trees in front, obstructing the view. So higher floor is better.

Also, if you enjoy sunsets, you may wish to have a room facing west, as you will actually be able to see the sun set from your balcony.

I would email them and see if they respond. If not, call them a week or so later to confirm that they got your email.

Then bring a copy of their response email with you. If you show up simply saying that you would get a certain room, they don't have any proof. But if you have an email from them, you'll have that as proof.
