Well.......not Kula, that's for sure! You'd both be quite chilly.

Generally you won't see may women topless on Maui beaches except at Little Beach. It is not illegal per se, but is somewhat 'frowned upon'.

There are only 2 places on Maui where you won't get hassled or possibly talked to by the police. One is the red sand beach in Hana, the other is Little Beach in Makena.

The red sand beach in Hana is hard to get to, rather dangerous trail and there are access issues as to whether you can cross private land to get to it.

Little Beach is just about 20 min. south of Kihei. It's adjacent to Big Beach and you have to climb a cinder cone to get to it. Not terribly hard to do. Both beaches are considered "clothing optional".

There are at least 10 different beaches I know of where its acceptable to go topless. Little Beach of course. Secret Beach in Makena, next to changs. Red sand beach, beautiful and easy to access, just a short and really cool hike. Inbetween paia bay and Baldwin beach there are 2 clothing optional beaches. And several more littered around the island.

Depends on what you mean by OK. Is it legal, perhaps? Will you get hassled? Depends on the location and your attitude.

Is it respectful of the locals and their customs? Usually not.

Be aware that unlike the previous post, Red Sand Beach on east Maui near the Hotel Hana Maui is NOT easy to access. The CORRECT trailhead is often hard to find. If you miss it, as many have, then you may end up with the private property / Kapu / trespassing issues. Being on the radar of the Hana police is not a great way to spend your time, esp. if you plan to be there for a day or two or ever want to return.

Then IF you find the trail, it is narrow, steep and can be very dangerous with long drops down to the jagged shoreline. Little Beach on south Maui is much easier to access, closer to facilities and other amenities and has more of a tradition of ceremony, drumming circles and often a good vibe for topless or nude.

I would ask a true local, a resident who has lived on north shore or in Paia for awhile, before wandering around to find "Ok for topless" beaches near Baldwin. Get an escort or guide if you can and definitely go with a group. You can take a very long hike from behind the shops at Hana Highway and Baldwin, trekking all the way to Sprecklesville ... yet there are a lot of homeless closer to the airport. You can check the local police blotter for the record of frequent thefts, car vandalism, etc. near Baldwin Beach Park.

The "secret beach" in Makena is about the last place you want to go topless or bottomless for that matter. It's constantly being used for weddings and I guarantee you, you will get hassled. I wouldn't around Paia either. This area is mainly used by locals and I know they wouldn't appreciate it. I've already posted my feelings on the red sand beach in Hana.

Your best bet is Little Beach where it's accepted, a bit isolated and no one else gives a darn.

Is that from personal experience? (I just couldn't resist)

Dragon's Teeth is also in an area that is very sacred to the Hawaiians. Not only that but you have to cross private property to get there. The only thing more disrespectful to the host culture than going somewhere they would rather you not be, is to be naked while doing it!!
