Hello,

I am taking a two week honeymoon in Sept. First week will be on Maui (staying in Wailea and 1 or 2 nights in Hana).

Second week was to be at the Princeville, but they called to inform me that they were doing construction and I can't stay there.

I booked a 1 BR at the Westin Princeville and also have a room at the Grand Hyatt.

I've never stayed at a Starwood ownership property. Can someone shed some light -- will it be full service enough to be a good honeymoon spot? I know there won't be room service, but what else are we forgoing by not being at a resort?

Much appreciated.

The Westin will be a timeshare property. Princeville Hotel closes for renovations Sept 19th. If it were me I would book the Hyatt over the Westin. It will be a more a full service resort. Timeshare properties are not quite the same. You should love the Hyatt.

thanks for the info. never stayed in a timeshare property. any specifics on what may be lacking in such a property?

for the $, it seems like a great deal ($299 for an $800 room), but am i really just getting extra space at the expense of resort luxuries?

i appreciate the insight.

The only thing I can think of right off the top of my head besides a lot of services is usually when you rent a timeshare type room, the people who bought a timeshare at that property get the preferred rooms. You are never guaranteed where you will stay.

I'd definitely stay at the Hyatt - it is absolutely gorgeous, worth every penny. Do visit the north shore though - also stunning, but the Hyatt IMO is the best on the island.

Having worked in timeshare,I can tell you that staying in a timeshare condo is not nearly the same experience as staying in a resort hotel. While a timeshare condo can be beautiful, especially this newest ones, the beauty is in the granite kitchen counter tops and most likely a tub for two. The condo will contain a fully equipped kitchen--but do you want your bride/groom to make you breakfast on your honeymoon? Also, timeshare resorts often have very nice shared amenities, such as a pool and exercise room but it has a very different feel. No poolside towel service, no daily maid service, no room service and often not a very good restaurant either. Timeshare condos are great for families but I would definitely not recommend it for your honeymoon. Plus, there's no such thing as an upgrade. An upgrade in a TS condo would be a 2bedroom condo not an upgraded view. Plus, you'll miss out on all the nice extras hotels often provide complimentary to newlyweds--bottle of champagne or fruit or something. The grand hyatt is a better option. hope this helps

For your honeymoon stay at the Hyatt; for your vacation stay at Westin Princeville.

For a honeymoon, I'd probably stay at the Hyatt, too. But I do want to correct some info that was posted by another person about the Westin Ocean Resort Villas because my husband and I stayed there in early May.

If you rent a room (versus use it as a "vacation owner"), you do get room service every day. Also, there is poolside towel service.

Thanks for the clarification on room service Melody---I'm going as a hotel guest so I'm very much looking forward to the room service. Wow! That's a bonus as I was thinking there was none.
