We just got back from 2 weeks at Hale Kalalea in Anahola Kauai. We decided to book based on the website www.kauaisunrisehome.com and were so happy we did - we've been fooled by glitzy pictures on a website before, but this place was better than it appeared online. All new and spotless, all the kitchen utensils we could ever want, nice and private, with an awesome mountain view, which was great to stare at as the sun rose every morning. Lee and Maria were just wonderful hosts, very genuine and extremely helpful, and Lee's incredible art hung from all the walls. www.leeclarkart.com

We had the upper floor unit, with no one downstairs, and actually felt like it was "home" - couldn't wait to get back every evening and have a bottle of wine, listening to the crickets. I guess if I could think of anything "negative" it would be that of course, a car is totally necessary, there was a little bit of highway noise, and the insane roosters didn't know it was night time! But there were just loads of beaches nearby, and the place was located just right to get away from the crowds, and being in Anahola, was located so a drive north or south was an equal option.

I would highly recommend this place for those wishing peace and quite away from tourist central, wanting to relax and just enjoy kauai as a local.
