Hi everyone, greetings from the Uk. I've just booked a 3 day visit to Milwaukee, in early July 2013.
What would you recommend we see, in the short time that we are there?
We are reliant on public transport to get around.
It does look a lovely city, Hope you can help.
I have to rebut what Heather said about Bradford. The lake is typically very clean (thanks to zebra mussels), however quite chilly. If the wind blows the right direction after an algae bloom or an alewive kill, you might experience the smell. Or, you might not depending on the time of year, winds, weather.... It's a great spot to hang out, people watch, have a few beers on the beach, and if the moon is in the right phase, watch the full moon rise out of the lake.
Bradford Beach has been cleaned up and is a nice place, just don't plan on a lot of water time, it is coooold.
Lake Park is across the street from Bradford Beach, (get a hamburger at the beach), and is a nice place to walk and wonder. Lake Park Bistro is great for brunch.
Villa Terrace is also an unique small museum.
Thank you all yet again for the replies. The Villa terrace gardens look so beautiful, i think thats one stopping off point in our short stay.

This July will be the 4th summer in a row that we've visited Milwaukee. It's a great city to spend a long weekend.
The Trolley that loops around downtown is a great way to get around downtown (other than walking which we do a lot of too). It only cost $1 and you can get on and off using the same ticket all day.

Have you been to Summerfest yet?
No we haven't. We always come up for Brewfest which is the last weekend of July. And the plus is that Germanfest and Brady Street Festival is the same weekend. We usually stay Thursday to Sunday.
We stayed last summer at County Clare and loved it so much we booked this years trip while we were still there.
County Clare is very nice.
Brady Street festival is a good one.
We home brew and still have not made it to that festival. Maybe this year we will make it to that one.
It is so nice to hear from return visitors with good impressions of Milwaukee.

Easy....take the ferry to Michigan!!! Much more to do as well as lower prices and better looking people!!!
Milwaukee has a great river walk you can enjoy some nice walks with a lot of options for restaurants along the way.
