we are comint to Milwaukee in april to visit the harley davidson museum and the river walk. Any recommendations as to where to stay would be appreciated. We would like something convienant to these places. Budget places only please. And any other recommendations as to what to see please. Never been here before. Thanks.
As long as you have a car any of the hotels near the airport are only a 10 minute drive from Harley Museum.
Other suggestions for sights to see: brewery tour- the big Miller tour or a smaller tour like Sprecher or Lakefront
At least a look around at the Milwaukee Art Museum the architecture of the Museum is the draw even if you are not an art fan stop in the lobby and have a coffee in the cafe and take in views of the lake.
M. A short stop at the Joan of Arc chapel on Marquette campus. Medieval chapel brought here from France brick by brick, in April lots of tulips adorn the grounds.
Milwaukee Public Museum will still be hosting the special exhibit Pirates sponsored by National Geographic and getting great reviews.
If you are on a budget you might find more affordable hotels near the airport as long as you have a car. It would be best to stay downtown if you won't have a car. Milwaukee's downtown area is compact enough that any hotel in your price range would do.
If you like baseball you might think about going to a Brewers game if they are in town when you are here. Miller Park is a great place to see a game.
I would definitely stay downtown, no doubt. Plenty of nightlife and restaurants to keep you occupied.
The river walk is downtown, but honestly is not a must see. It is nice, but really only has a few restaurants and bars along it. No shopping. But a pleasant enough walk with some nice views.
The Harley Davidson museum is reachable from downtown by foot, but may be a bit of a walk depending on where you stay. It is a bit isolated, but no worries.

Definately downtown! Not a whole lot of budget places , but check out budget sites for these downtown hotels. (hotels.com/cheaphotels.com/…expedia.com) sometimes they have pretty good deals!

we have been to the river walk in San Antonio and really enjoyed it. so we thought this would be around the same idea.

Reasonable and affordable! Be sure to check out the art museum! Wonderful place - lived there a long time and miss it!
We LOVE Milwaukee and spend a weekend a month there year round. We have stayed lots of places, but for affordability, a great breakfast, and a good location we often choose the Hampton Inn on Wisconsin Ave. If you've ever stayed at a Hampton Inn, this property is pretty typical for the brand. Not opulent, but clean and modern. They have a small but nice pool, hot tub and work out room as well.
We LOVE the public market--an easy walk from the HI. There is a seriously cheap seafood place in there where we had a $14 whole lobster on our last visit.
Being a Groupon junkie, I find all sorts of great Milwaukee deals there on food and services. Check it out!
