Lake Lawn Resort or the Abbey ?

Looking to book into a resort for a few days this May 2009 and was wondering which resort is better? I have seen both good and bad reviews of both resorts. Also, which may have better night life ?

Not looking for crazy but some life...

Thanks,

Nancy

The Abbey will provide more of a nightlife because it has live entertainment in its Waterfront bar. It also has Gordy's Boat House Bar & Restaurant about a block away www.gordysboats.com It can sometimes be crowded and noisy, but usually fun. The Abbey is across the street from Geneva Lake, not right on it due to its boat slips. So, it doesn't have a private beach, but there is a public beach in Fontana, within walking distance.

Lake Lawn, on the other hand, is right on Delavan Lake, and it has a golf course and a small beach. It has more of a country-side feel to it. I would choose it if you are looking for more relaxation. There is nothing like Gordys or other bars around it. Dowtown Delavan is a cobblestone street with antique shops.

Both have spas and both are within a 10-minute drive of Lake Geneva, where there is night life. Therefore, either one you choose, Lake Geneva will give you the shopping, dining and entertainment in just a short drive.

Neither is better, just different from each other.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much! I appreciate the input. Do you have any advice on the restaurants within each resort ? and suggestions on other restaurants in the area.

Il Porto at the Abbey is one of my favorites...a combination of italian, french and spanish food served in their famous A-frame building. Lake Lawn Resort has the Frontier Room, which has just been redone to serve what they call upscale comfort food, using fresh local produce and meats.

Here's some other suggestions:

Medusa Grill and Bistro on Broad St. in Lake Geneva, which is Mediteranean

Kirsch's at the French Country Inn, overlooking Lake Como, this would be right off of RT.50, just outside of Lake Geneva www.kirschs.com

Geneva National Hunt Club, set in an old home on the grounds of Geneva National Golf Club, also on Rt. 50 www.genevanationalresort.com

Geneva ChopHouse at the Grand Geneva Resort for steaks www.grandgeneva.com

A couple of smaller places frequented by the locals:

Joseph's Steakhouse North Shore Dr. Delavan

The Village Supper Club, South Shore Drive Delavan www.foodspot.com/thevillagesupperclub Both of these are really close to Lake Lawn, if you stay there.

Another place that is fun is Hemingways www.hemingwaysportofcall.com It is about mile north of downtown Lake Geneva on Hwy. H It has a patio, live entertainment, volleyball courts, a tiki bar, and just an island craziness atmosphere.

If you go to the Lake Geneva TripAdvisor forum, some of these restaurants have been review there.

Have a good time.
