Heading to Summersville 7-2..what do we HAVE to do??

We have a few things planned for our week vacation..things like tubing on the Greenbrier, white water rafting, snorkeling at Summersville Lake. Is there anything there that you have done that we absolutely cannot miss while there? We're getting so excited about going to that area, we've never been there and want to take everything in that we can. Thanks!

Looks like you have a fun filled week planned.

I would also head south to Fayetteville and the New RIver

Gorge Bridge. Go to the Visitors Center (at the north end of the bridge) Very nice and interesting. And be sure to walk to the overlook! Gorgeous! Then you might try dinner at Smokies, just past the bridge, north.

You also might want to go to the Good Evening Ranch and Feed Box resturant. It is just a few miles outside of Summersville. I believe they have a petting zoo as well as golf course and fishing pond.

Their website is www.goodeveningranch.com

Have fun!!!

What town/area are you staying in? Are you staying in Summersville? Are you staying in 1 place for the week or traveling around? The reason I ask is because I don't think all the things you are doing are right in Summersville (I could be wrong). However, they are not far away. Knowing where your base is would help with the "don't miss" things suggestions.

The Greenbrier river is gorgeous.

If you go to Hawk's Nest or near the town of Ansted, be sure to check out the Mystery Hole. It is a cheesy looking little tourist spot but it is awesome - as it says " where the Law of Gravity seems to have gone berserk ". http://www.mysteryhole.com/contactus.html

Goto http://www.wvtourism.com/planner.aspx?pgID=57 to help plan your trip. You will need to click on Summersville and also on Fayetteville (I am almost positive the Fayetteville area is where you will be whitewater rafting). Summersville is in the Mountain Lakes Region and Fayetteville is in the New River/Greenbrier Valley Region.

You taught me something new - I've lived in WV for 25 years and never knew there was decent snorkeling anywhere in WV. So I checked out the Summersville website and it does say "Scuba diving and snorkeling are also very popular in this oligotrophic lake. Bubbles Cove and Long Point are favorite spots to snorkel and scuba in what Skin Diver magazine refers to as “The Little Bahamas of the east.”

Around Fayetteville you can hit a rafting compny for horseback riding, rock climbing and or mtn bike riding.

1+ hour drive over to Lewisburg to tour a cavern.

1+ hour drive over to Richwood for hiking trails in National Forest, Cranberry Glades and Scenic Highway.

2 hour drive over to Cass Scenic Railway.

And last but not least. If in Fayetteville at dinner time. Dirty Ernie's Rib Pit at the south end of New River Bridge.

If you do head over to Cass Scenic Railway, (which is a lot of fun) BE SURE to stop at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank!

The worlds largest fully steerable radio telescope is located there.

Seeing is believing!! They have great tours!

check out their website:

or "google" Green Bank, WV

If in Fayetteville, for lunch go to the Cathedral Cafe. Great food.

In Summersville, CORNERSTONE CAFE

800 Main Street is supposed to be really good.
