need advice today re: best route South

We drove up from Durham NC on Friday evening and it was really awful---snowing, unfamiliar roads and dark for the last 2 hours (I know, we were warned on this site not to drive up in the dark). Leaving in the morning and would love advice as to the best route back to the NC Triangle area. Thanks for any words of wisdom!! Oh, and we have had a blast in Snowshoe!!!

jgt, looks like Snowshoe area and a county or two to the south of you are in a Winter Weather Advisory until late tomorrow morning. SO...if you can wait until then (late morning) to leave you should be fine. (whether driving on 92 or 219, as those are the only way outta there) Yes, weather Friday and Saturday was crazy, and not great to drive in. Sorry!!

Glad you had a good time! Would love to hear more about your trip. Did your son have fun? Where did you stay? Did you stock up on food before arrival? Did you swim? etc.

We had an incredible time---much better than anticipated! Stayed at Allegheny Springs. Can't say enough about the customer service and accommodations. We were in a Jr. Deluxe Suite. Range, fridge, microwave, dishwasher. Queen bed, sleeper sofa, gas fireplace and balcony. Probably would get a one bedroom if we stay for 4 nights again but the Jr. Deluxe was absolutely fine.

We brought stuff for breakfast (bacon, pancake mix, fruit etc) and lunch (cold cuts, cheese, bread etc) and were glad we did. Saved us $ and lots of time as well. Had dinner out. Reservations at Auntie Pasta's and South Mountain Grill (I think they're the only place that take reservations). At at The Junction on our first night. About an hour's wait but once seated things were great--both service and food.

11 year old son had a blast! Ski school at Silver Creek on Saturday morning then learning for the rest of the trip. Quite confident with greens and easy blues by this afternoon.

Having the outside heated pool and the hot tub sealed the deal for us for future reservations---we'll be coming back to AS! After a day of skiing and great dinners it was SO much fun to spend time unwinding.

Thanks for the driving recs. We're planning to leave tomorrow at 11:00 so hopefully will be in the clear. Gayl
