A tip for anybody going tent camping. Bears are attracted by any kind of scent or fragrence. Not just food laying around but soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deoderant, etc....Keep all that stuff away from sleeping area.
Co-worker was at Cranberry a few weeks ago and was woke up by bear in camp site. Looked out and saw bear with edge of cooler in it's mouth. Said it was too funny looking to be scary.
It's been years since we've been camping but there were times we tied stuff high off ground between trees to get it out of bear's reach. All this dry weather has wildlife on the move looking for food and water. Animals are heading into areas they usually stay out of. Getting closer to people.
Flowers and garden plants have taken a beating this year with the deer. They ate my tomatoes but left the plants. Ate leaves off pepper plants but left the peppers. We have long stems with no flowers and in another bed they ate the leaves off the stems and left the flowers.
No bear this year(so far). Was one in neighborhood last year getting into some bee hives.
Oh yeah.....We're in populated residential area. Not rural. They call WV Wild and Wonderful for a reason.
