Family stuff in or near Berkeley Springs

We're a family of five and are staying in Berkeley Springs for a week as a larger family reunion. Any suggestions about things we could do? We'll take ideas outside of the immediate area as well but don't really want to drive more than an hour. Thanks!! ages 11-7 on the kids.

Berkeley Springs is a beautiful area, but is not a huge area for family entertainment. There are a few interesting things you could try:

Tour the Castle at Berkely Springs: berkeleyspringscastle.org/castle/BerkeleySpr…

View artists at work, or join in with them making pottery or stained glass at the Frog Valley Studios. They have special classes for kids on Thursdays: http://frogvalley.com/

Berkely Springs State Park has "Art in the Park" this weekend, along with events throughout the year. And, of course, the actual hot springs themselves: http://www.berkeleyspringssp.com/

Cacapon Resort is nearby with golf, fishing, boating, hiking, horseback riding, etc. http://www.cacaponresort.com/

There's the Cold Run Driving Range & Mini Golf course. No website, but here's their address and phone: Rt 9W 1 mile off Rt 522. (304)-258-1749

Hope that helps. Haven't spent much time there, but it is a really beautiful area. Hopefully, one of the locals can post some better ideas. Good luck!

There's a really nice bike trail across the Potomac at Hancock Maryland. It's a rail trail so it's paved and flat. It's called the Western Maryland Rail Trail. There is a bike rental in Hancock called C&O bicycle.

Cacapon State Park is very nice as mentioned above. There is a public pool in Berkeley Springs State Park. The C&O canal is also located nearby in Hancock,Md and Paw Paw, WV. Paw Paw has a tunnel on the canal.

There is a Fish Hatchery on 522 South just before the Virgina line. It's nice to look at the fish, no fishing allowed.

Enjoy.

The castle is not open for tours. It is a private home which is available to rent for occasions.

There is lots to do "around" Berkeley Springs but you need to travel a bit. There is an Outlet Mall just outside of Hagerstown, MD. For history you have Harpers Ferry, WV. Antietam Battlefield just outside of Sharpburg, MD. Just 11 miles south of Hagerstown. Berkeley Springs is more for adults and their relaxation, but there is stuff to do around if you don't mind traveling a bit.

There's also Fort Frederick State Park near Big Pool, MD which is a Revolutionary War fort. It's about 30 minutes away. SusieQQ is right that the castle is not open for public tours. I think Cacapon State Park still offers Horseback Riding, but if not there's Walking After Midnight Stables just over the Virginia line about 15 minutes from Cacapon.
