What do you do for recreation if you do not drink alcohol and have young kids? My family is planning a reunion in Yakima and all I have gleaned from websites is wine tasting and gambling. Does any one have any ideas for FAMILY fun stuff? Thanks!

You got me wondering, since I've been through, but not really to, Yakima. So I Googled and looked at this site: http://www.visityakima.com/visitorcenter.cfm
I would direct you to the website:
Check the events schedule that fits with your dates.
There are plenty of outdoor/active things for families in the area including - River rafting or floating down the Yakima river, golf and mini-golf, fishing and fly-fishing, biking, etc.
The valley trail along the river is a fun walk that leads to a terrific playground for kids. There are outdoor movies in the summer.
Depending on your travel dates, I love the many orchards and farms, as well as the weekly farmers markets. Though the u-pick farms are slowly disappearing, there are still some. We always have an outing to pick peaches and nectarines. It's a fun family activity. Yakima's are the best!
Yakima Valley rodeo is in August.
More ideas:
I know you didn't want wineries...but the Piety Flats has a general store and a terrific stop with the family for their peach sundaes. Picnic tables right outside.
The Dairygold Dairy in Sunnyside has a cheese tour - and of course more ice cream!
There may be events at the State Fair Park or Sundome.
The Rail Museum or the Yakima Valley museum.
Here is a map to the valley greenway and playground I previously mentioned:
