Direct trains between Seattle & Spokane?

Tried to book direct train to/from Spokane and Seattle. Amtrak routes all trains thru PDX. Is that right? Am I missing something?

Look at the schedule for the Empire Builder, originating in Chicago, through Spokane onto Seattle.

Dean no they go direct from Spokane to Seattle and Seattle to Spokane.

They leave here and arrive here from Seattle in the middle of the night and take 8 hours or so to get to Seattle making stops on the way. The only problem, and one to watch for, is that if there is bad weather in Chicago or along the way the train is delayed and during the winter that can happen a lot, it's rarely on time so do check before waiting at the station for hours.

The bus is often a better bet taking about 6 hours and is usually on time. If a very bad snow storm in the pass then there could be delays. Which is why many of us fly over during the winter.

When I take the train from Seattle to Montana it meets the Portland train in Spokane and hook up, but there is a 'train' from Seattle to Spokane.

#3 spot-on. We took the Empire Builder from Chicago to Portland, and at Spokane the train divided, with some cars going to Portland and others going to Seattle. The EB does not travel between Seattle and Portland, though the Coast Starlight does.

Are you trying to get to Spokane by train? It's a late afternoon-evening trip going, and middle of the night coming back, at least by train. Amtrak also has buses on this route.

Make sure you are going over the Cascade Mountains during DAYLIGHT hours.

The scenery from Central Washington is mind numbingly boring.

Please also note that the WEST bound train originates in Chicago. So if there are any adverse weather events from Chicago to Spokane, the train can delayed. Winter snow delays of eight hours, or more, are not uncommon. While you can always go on line and find out the status of any train, it is still not convenient convenient to wait in a very dark and iffy neighborhood" of the Kan train station.

The Empire Builder splits apart in Spokane. The WEST bound trains continue on ...one part to Seattle, one part to Portland. The EAST bond trains meet in Spokane and connect together into new train for he journey EAST past Spokane.
