I didn't find much info about Chelan on TA when we planned our Chelan trip and I thought I would share it so that it would help others in the future.

Must do:

- On a sunny day, Boating / jet-skiing - there is NO speed limit on lake chelan. Highly recommended

- Take a ride to Stehekin to hike over there. Recommend an overnight stay. We didn't do it because of time constraint by people said it's nice and the boat ride is great.

- On a crappy day, visit the wineries there, especially Benson Vineyards. That place is fantastic, it's so relaxing! We could sit there for the whole day (assuming you go there for a relaxing trip). Not much food option there though so it's best to go there for an afternoon wine tasting/chilling after lunch.

- Bear Food Cafe for their crepes, awesome!

One note, most sit-in restaurants except Campbell's Pub are closed by 9:30pm. Here is more about my trip in case you are interested: http://www.thrutomislens.com/post/6288577014/memorial-day-weekend-at-chelan-wa

NVS, Stehekin is a park at the end of the lake that you can only boat or fly or long hike into. It has a full service lodge, local shops, cabins, fishing, biking tours etc.

Give it a look.

somewhere I have seen pictures of a greyish picket fence style mileage marker

to different cities, does anyone know where this is located.

Also, how many of the wineries would be open right now.?

There are 23 or 24 wineries around Chelan and Manson as far as I know most are open, they have tasting rooms and sale items, some have restaurants and places for events like weddings, etc.

The signs you are talking about do you mean the mile post markers that are along side the road that mark the miles to the next big city. They are all along I90,at least between Spokane and Seattle, yes they do kind of look like pickets from a fence.

The mileage signs are on WoodIn Ave right by the gas stations. Most of the wineries are open on the weekends during the off season. There are more and more that are open year round. It is best to call or check out their web sites for hours of operation... With 27 of them (as of Spring 2015)....some will be open!
