Transportation Alaska Ferry Terminal Bellingham to SEATAC

We - party of 4 adults - are arriving in Bellingham at 8am on Friday, Sept 6th on the Alaska ferry. We depart SEA 24 hours later & already have hotel reservations near the airport. We have looked at the Airporter shuttle service but it appears that this is a 3+ hour trip. We would like to maximize our time in the Seattle/northwest Washington area and are wondering if we would be better off getting a one way rental car in Bellingham & dropping at the Seattle airport? We were recently in Seattle and only used public transportation - light rail - and were very happy with it. Would be interested in opinions of locals & others who have experience with airporter and/or rental cars. Would also like to know if there are rental car offices close to the ferry. Thanks!

Enterprise will pick you up. There should be one nearby in Bellingham. I think that would be cheaper and easier than the Shuttle.

where the ferry comes in is also an Amtrak station however I checked and the train leaves at 6:45am so you would miss it. You could also check the bolt bus which stops in Bellingham then comes direct into downtown Seattle. While you would have to cab to where the stop is it is a possiblility.

other than that then the shuttle is the best.

There is a downtown Hertz rental facility in Bellingham, but you would need to get a cab there. A one-way rental would run about $50-60 a day. Since there are four of you that would be cheaper than the Airporter Shuttle. A drive from Bellingham to downtown Seattle takes about 2 hours so I don't know that it would save that much time unless the shuttle times don't work well with the ferry arrival.

There is a Greyhound bus that leaves Bellingham (right next to the ferry terminal) at 9:35 am. Advance purchase tickets are quite reasonable.

Thanks everyone! Have booked a rental car through the downtown Hertz location. They offer free pick up for locations within 15 minutes of their office. According to the map the ferry terminal is only 3 miles away so that should work. Ends up being cheaper than using the airporter shuttle.

We are considering the same option in July, did Hertz tell you to call when you where close?

Hertz said to call as ferry was docking so that we would not have too long of a wait for pick up.
