Traveling in June

what's fun in Bellingham for my 16yr old. I am looking for fun activities for my teenage daughter. We will be visiting for 2 weeks.

Take the ferry at Anacortes and go to Friday harbor on San Juan Island. The ferry ride is beautiful and on the island you can kayak or do an Orca Whale watch trip or Drive a little bubble car thing around the island, watch the sunset from Lime Kiln St Park and hope that a pod of Orcas swim by.

Back on the mainland drive to Marblemount and do a rafting trip on the Skagit river.

Drive to Everett and take the Boeing plant tour.

Go up to Vancouver and explore.

Lots of hiking in the Cascades too.

Hope this helps!

What does she like to do? Outdoor activities? Arts? When are you visiting?

This will be a little long, but hopefully helpful.

Sporty: We have a sportsplex with a pool and various other activities (depending on time of year) if you luck out on the timing you might be able to catch a Roller Betties (local roller derby team) match - they are great fun! There is also a skate park. Whatcom Falls park is fun to explore as are the numerous hiking trails around town. We have an extensive interurban trail system. In the summer there are some fun hosted kayak trips thru the parks department.

Arts: There is the Mt. Baker Theatre for live performances, but the season is nearly over. The Pickford Cinema for independant films. Summer stock at the college (they also do an outdoor performance at Larabee that is fun - Shakespeare usually). There is a paint your own ceramics place in Fairhaven and a soapmaking place downtown that sometimes has classes. If she knits there are several LYS that have knit nights. If she like photography there is a great lab downtown - in the summer there are lots of great oppotunities for great shots.

There are two whale whatching tour companies - one will go up to Victoria for the day and has dinner coming home.

Social: the are lots of summer concerts and Boundary Bay allows under 21yr olds until 10pm and they have live bands in the beer garden (they have hula hoops for the kids and brave adults).

There are fun / funky shops downtown that range from hip to hippie. And of course, the mall.

I just thought of this too: grab the Thursday paper. There is a section called Take 5 that has a listing for all the events around for the week.
