sun bathing in Virginia Beach

Hi, my wife and I will be in VA Beach from May 8 onwards, do you think it will be warm enough to sit on the beach for a couple of hours a day? We usually go to Myrtle in Mar/April but thought we would try VA Beach this year.

Thanks

Check out the Top question about Virginia Beach here on the right. The second one will help you, "What will the weather be like when I'm there?" There's a NOAA temperature chart by month.

May has a low of 66 to a high of 89, which includes nighttime. Actually spring has less cloud cover and one can burn more. And the sun reflects off water, sand and light colored boardwalk. So remembe the high spf, sunglasses, maybe a cap.

Thanks for the info about the weather. We will have a rental car, do we need to stay virtually ocean front or is it possible to stay further back and then park up for the day?

Thanks

Paul

There is paid parking. A little further back you can walk to the boardwalk. There are the areas north (residential and mostly walk to the beach and walk to the boardwalk depending on distance) and south (Virginia's outer banks called the Sandbridge section of Virginia Beach and mostly residential and, while on the beach there, you'd need to drive to the boardwalk area.)

You could stay much further in in the city and use a paid parking lot near Atlantic Ave but rates are pretty low at that time of year and a great time to stay oceanfront or closeby.

You'll just miss the GospelFest and the Kite Festival but will be in time for the Caribbean Music Festival (24th St area by the boardwalk and free) and Monster Truck (paid seating for good viewing at the south end of the boardwalk) the second weekend and, depending how long you stay, the Beach Music Weekend, the third weekend, three days and free. By the way, when you click on the Beach Music Festival, the t-shirts will give you an idea of the good weather possibilities.
