Anyone with any experience driving between Roanoke and Lexington, KY? Looks like a "you can't get there from here" proposition.
The thing is those magnificent mountains. They did their best with the highways, sometimes along the side of mountain walls going straight up and sheer drop offs.
If you can, go to google maps and across the top click "other" and opt for terrain to get a sense of it.
You might take 64 to 81 and then go south a bit.
Take I 81N to exit 150 then 220N up to Clifton Forge. Pick up I64 W (it will later merge with 77N). I tried going the back roads and got stuck behind log trucks and fuel trucks...added nearly an hour to the trip. Safe travels!
