Greensboro to Baltimore

Hi,

We are traveling to Greensboro in October. We will drive straight down to Greensboro, but on our way back to Baltimore, MD, we would like to stop and spend one or two nights on the road. We did Blue Ridge Mountains last year, so we would like to do something different. Please make suggestions.

Thank you in advance.

So are you posting in Roanoke because you'd like something in the west, just not the Blue Ridge Mts necessariy. Like, how about Floyd and Galax and Abingdon in SW Va? Or something more directly in line between Greensboro and Baltimore, such as Charlottesville or the countryside on the way up to Northern Va?

What do you like to do? Ages?

Hi,

We do not really wan to go out of our way to back home, so you may say from Greensboro to Baltimore. We did Charlottesville last year. We are not old, but we are not young and wild, either.

Would be interested in Richmond? It's nice for a night. Really, that stretch from Richmond straight to Greensboro is totally boring and only contains small, unattractive towns (sorry, residents of these places!). You could stop in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill for a night or two, which is only slightly out of your way (Durham actually isn't at all).

Hillsborough, NC is a fairly charming little town with lots of history, but it's so close to Greensboro, it wouldn't really break up your trip much. Closer to the Baltimore end, you could stop in Fredericksburg, VA, which is also charming (the old town part, not so much the new suburban sprawl section) and historic.

Maybe a tour of Chinqua Penn about 30 miles north of Greensboro. The new owners have done wonders with it. Fabulous. http://www.chinquapenn.com/

Perhaps the plethora of history in Lynchburg, Va and perhaps the WWll Memorial in Bedford, Va? And Thomas Jefferson's getaway, Poplar Forest, at the Lynchburg/Bedford county line.

Continue north toward Charlottesville and at that point head north east toward lovely, artsy, historc, quaint Fredericksburg, Va.

Getting any closer?
