Is there a place in the Bay of Islands where we can spot dolphins from the beach? We don't want to go on a tour while we are traveling with young children.

It is very unlikely that you will see dolphins from the foreshore around Paiha and Russell. Dolphins and Orca are frequent visitors to the Bay but they generally spend more time further out in the Bay where feeding is more plentiful. Tour operators are so confident that dolphins/orca will be sighted that most will offer a FREE return trip if any arent seen.

Hi, It is very rare that you will see dolphins of the shore at Paihia or Russell. They tend to stay out in the Bay of Islands which is a 30 minute boat ride to get to the first island. The half day 4 Hour boat tours guarantee that you see dolphins or whales or you get another trip free. These tours are free for under 5 year olds. Regards Sue.
