5 friends making day trip through the valley...2 are newbies...would love to find scenic vineyard/winery where we could have tour and lunch...pleasing views a must...thanks for any input...or best place to purchase picnic lunch to take with us...many thanks

Domaine Chandon has a restaurant and is a nice winery with pretty grounds. :)

Besides the other places mentioned, you could always buy your picnic items at the Oakville Grocery and picnic at a winery of your choice. Not all of them offer picnicking so check out this list for suggestions:

Round Pond doesn't have a restaurant. What they offer is a very special tour and tasting in their garden than includes a lunch. It's not offered every day and there are minimum and maximum group size requirements and it needs to be reserved in advance.

Not sure if you already did your trip or not, but I just visited myself for the first time. A good bit of info to know is that most of the winerys don't serve even crackers or cheese. So if you are looking to do some wine tasting, bring along some snacks before you head out

Francis Coppola Winery has a nice restaurant with good views and a movie prop exhibit as well.

Coppola's Rustic restaurant is a great choice but it's in Geyserville in Sonoma County. This is the Napa Valley forum.
