walking in Mijas

We are thinkng of going to Mijas in September for a week, which area would you recommend to stay in, the old village or the costa and is it is to travel between the two areas. I like to do a bit of walking while away, are there any walks around Mijas that I could do. Also is the local bus service good for visiting other local resorts, thanks

Mijas Costa is completely different from Mijas Pueblo, it's a long sprawl of developments with no real centre. Mijas Pueblo is a beautiful traditional Andalucían town (albeit very popular with day visitors).

There are lots of walking and hiking routes from Mijas Pueblo that go further up into the moutains, of varying degrees of difficulty. Here's one map as an example, there are plenty available online and from Mijas Tourist Office:

Frequent buses run down into Fuengirola for the seaside and onward connections by train or bus into Málaga City, Marbella etc. There is also a direct bus down to Benalmádena and Torremolinos.
