Which is the easiest & cheapest airport to use from Norfolk?

I am studying at ODU next year and will be travelling around the US a lot- which airport is best to use from Norfolk, Norfolk international or Richmond?

For ease, price, destinations, and cheap transfers back to Old dominion in Norfolk?

Does anyone have suggestions on places to visit either in VA or on the East Coast, I will be here for 9 months.

Many thanks.

Norfolk International Airport is easy to use and has flights from several carriers including Southwest, Delta, United. You should not have a problem flying in and out of Norfolk. When traveling, you can always check Richmond for more options, RIC is just under 2 hours drive time from ODU. Virginia is a beautiful state and you will have no problem finding scenic and fun places to travel. Post about your interests and forum regulars will respond with travel suggestions.

Wiki is pretty good at showing destinations. Looking at this it doesn't really look like RIC serves anyplace that you can't fly to from Norfolk so you can save yourself a couple hours of driving.

For Richmond (1.5 hours), DC (3 hours), Baltimore(3-4 hours), Philly (5 hours), NYC (6 hours) and Boston you'll also have Megabus and Amtrak. I like cities and would recommend all of those for a visit.

You'll be close to the beach which is nice. Virginia has wonderful mountains and lots of wilderness opportunities all along the appalachian trail which will be about 4-5 hours away. McAffee knob, dragons tooth, virginia highlands, and so forth.

Norfolk International is you best bet, especially getting back an forth to ODU via ground transportation You are staying in a great area for sightseeing. Most all of Virginia is within 4 hours. Alot of early american history is within 45 minutes. Virginia Beach, Norfolk Hampton, Newport News. Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown are very close. Richmond is 1 1/2 hours. Check out the Things to Do section of each city listed and you will have more to do than you have time.
