batsi

We will be stopping in Batsi for a week in June. Is there an ATM machine there or money changing facilities? Also any recommendations for places to eat.

Hi;

Batsi is our favourite holiday spot - we've been there eight times already and we'e going again June 15th to 29th.

Yes, there is an ATM in Batsi - it's in the wall of a shop by the harbour, round the corner from the boat shed cafes past the jewellery shop - near where the fishing boats moor. Also the travel agents will change money.

As far as eating places are concerned there are tavernas behind the beach. The last one at the far end of the beach is the Cava D’Oro which is very popular; the one just before it, the Kadouni, is better and there’s a nice little bar beside it.

Behind the beach at the town end are more tavernas including a very Greek fish place; there’s also a Chinese restaurant (!!). There’s cafes in the old boat sheds (including the Koala, which is good), and some nice tavernas – especially Oti Kala (the smaller of the two up on the balcony above the fish shop) and Stamatis, very close to it and run by a Canadian Greek family. Avoid the Sirocco - the bloke who runs it is a bit slimy and the food isn't as good as ihe makes out it to be. In terms of bars, there are nice ones next to the boat shed cafes. There is also one on the road out from the town centre towards the War Memorial, a good place to watch the sunset. Go past the War Memorial on the road to Delavoya and there's Stivari, a small beach with a taverna behind it – run by a Welsh woman and a Greek man, it has the nicest garden in town and serves the largest portions of food. It’s a bit of a haunt of “ex-pats”. Further on there’s Delavoya and then further on round is Aghia Marina, a lovely beach with a good taverna that is only open at lunch times.

There’s good tavernas out of town, especially the Balcony of the Aegean at Aprovato which is on the mountain side about 1000 foot up and has wonderful views of the sunset. Great steaks too! We'll be going there on Midsummer’s Eve.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Mac and Carol
