Coming from Dallas...airport; car rental; shuttle?

We are travelling from Dallas and need to know what airport would be best to fly into/out of. Would renting a car be best? We would be staying at the Homestead resort.

Also, what is the weather like mid-February?

thanks!!!!!

The Homestead website lists Roanoke as the closest airport, at about 75 miles. Richmond is about 180 miles, Charlottesville a little over 100 miles. The Homestead can arrange transportation, but having your own car might be easier. You can check the resort's transport fee and compare it with the car rental rates, and decide whether the rental or using the resort's transport will be better for you. Check the resort's website for more information.

In the mountains, in Virginia, it will still be winter. Homestead's planned closing date for skiing isn't until mid-March. While a thaw or warm spell isn't out of the question, it will most likely still be cold.

Definitely fly into Roanoke VA - it's appox a 90 minute drive (very rural roads) from the airport to the Hotel. I would check with the HomeStead to arrange transportation/shuttle service as that drive can be quite intense and would not recommend driving at night. There is really no need to have a car so if possible I'd avoid the rental fee.

Mid Feb will still be cold in VA (30-45 degrees).

Have fun!
