Somewhere to eat?

The BA strike has resulted in our having to change flights and now arrive at Dulles airport at 15.45 so by the time we have cleared customs and collected our hire car it's likely to be rush hour and just about the worst time to be driving to Lancaster pa for the start of our holiday!

So can anyone suggest somewhere we could go for an early dinner? That way we could perhaps miss the heaviest of the traffic. You know what it's like when you first arrive in a different country and have to drive on the 'wrong' side of the road and get used to a new car too!!

You have so, so many options. Tell us what you like to eat, do you want this to be a fancy meal, or just a quick bite.

We just want somewhere easy to get to and for it to be a relaxed bite to eat rather than a posh meal.

We don't like curry but otherwise anything goes.

I don't have a suggestion for a place to eat, but I would like to mention that if you are heading to Lancaster from Dulles, you can avoid the majority of the rush hour traffic by using this route: http://bit.ly/9veXvA

This uses Route 267, US-15, and US-30. It's a very nice drive, keeps you off the beltway (which is awful any time of day) and shouldn't give you too much traffic.

If you are hungry and do decide to take head in that direction, near Dulles there is a local chain called Clyde's, which I find to usually have very good, American food. Here is a link to their location near the airport: www.clydes.com/main/RestaurantsDetail.cfm…

Thank very much for that mjw703 we will definately be following that route. Clyde's looks just the sort of place we'll be looking for and without all the rush hour traffic I'm sure we'll see something along the way.

Clydes is very good. The building itself is composed of several old farmhouses that have been reconstructed. There is a lot to look at inside, and a great patio eating area outside. Getting there is easy from the airport and is only about 10-15 minutes away. From the airport, take the Dulles Greenway/267 towards Leesburg and get off at Exit 5/Claiborne Parkway. Turn left off the exit ramp. Make the first right at the light onto Broadlands Blv. Clydes will be on the right. Also at that light, there is a shopping center containing a seafood restaurant (Bonefish), a steakhouse (American Steakhouse) and several other restaurants, as well as a grocery store (Safeway). You may want to stop here to get some things for the road, or just to see what an American grocery is like!

Thank you Foredecs I have made a note of your excellent directions. Sounds an ideal place to pass a little time without having to worry about still being in the clothes we left England in some considerable hours earlier lol.

So excited now and only three days to go. Never been to this part of America before but enjoyed our previous four trips so every confidence this will be just as good.
