We are planning our first trip to Chincoteague the third week in Sept. with our four children. We are torn between staying at the Refuge Inn or renting a house in Piney Island. We would like to be close to Assateague for biking to make it easier on the youngest two. We have found a couple of nice homes for rent on Piney Island, but since we've never been there before, I can't get a real feel for what the area is like. I don't want a place that is too secluded that I will feel uncomfortable if I have to stay behind to put the little ones down for bed while my husband stays out with my older two. We like the Refuge Inn from what we've read, but I usually stay away from hotels when possible b/c they are more frequently travelled and the recent bed-bug scare creeps me out! I'm not saying they have them, of course, in fact I've only read excellent reviews of the staff and the cleanliness. We would have to get two rooms to fit our family size, but that is o.k. The older kids really want to stay at the Refuge partly b/c of the ponies and the location. Any advice on Piney Island or the Refuge for a family of six would be helpful and much appreciated! Thank you!
