Thank you both for your help. I think I will skip Burlington, only because of the time factor. Chris and Liz, those are great ideas for Stowe. We're especially interested in the rec path. I wish we had more time to climb around on the rocks :)
SOTT, I will take your advice and travel down 100 instead of 89. We are most interested in seeing the beautiful scenery in this part of the country that we've heard so much about. We will probably go ahead and stop for lunch in Woodstock, as I've had my heart set on seeing this town. The other towns, we'll probably just stop for a half hour or so. We have all the way until evening to get to Brattleboro.
Speaking of Brattleboro, your description made me smile. My 20 year old daughter would absolutely love it there, as she thinks she should have been born in the '60's. Easy for her to say from her vantagepoint as an idealist, which is to skip over the turbulence and weirdness. We're looking forward to our night at the Latchis and hanging around for a while the next morning. It'll be fun.
Thanks again for your input. Vermont is one of the states I'm most looking forward to. As an FYI, we are traveling from Michigan for our anniversary (22 years !) and our itinerary includes Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Martha's Vineyard, Boston, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Then back through upstate NY through Canada to home. We've been wanting to do this trip since we met.
Can't wait, we're counting down ..
Thanks again, Joanne
