You are going to have a great time. Marshfield is a fantastic place to spend time.

If you have mountain bikes, you can get on the railroad trail system that is part of Groton State Park. It's quite beautiful. The terrain is very easy. The hills are very gradual. The trails are very wide.

If you are looking to bike on roads, RT 232 between Marshfield and Groton is really beautiful. It's a paved road without a lot of traffic.

Take advantage of Groton State Park. Climb Owl's Head. Rent a canoe and go out on Ricker Pond. Ask the park guides what your options are for hiking and biking. They'll have a lot of great ideas.

To eat: River Run in Plainfield is legendary for its catfish and southern cuisine. Great breakfast. Great dinner.

Rainbow Sweets is legendary for it's baked goods. It's an amazing bakery. The owner is a bit of a character. Some people love him, most hate him. He's well intentioned. And it's worth a visit.

You won't be far from Montpelier. Check out the Black Door for a great dinner and some good music. Classic American menu with local ingredients. Sarducci's is a popular Italian restaurant. Really great.

There is much, much more ...

I'll second Truman's recommendations, especially Groton State Forest. And if you can hike to the top of Owl's Head in the forest in July, there are fantastic panoramic views....AND wild blueberries galore to be picked.

Yep, lots here if you like the outdoors. Other restaurants near by (25 minutes) Claire's in Hardwick (check out on web), Owls head is a pretty short hike. There are many more that are more substantial - some you may need to travel 30 to 60 minutes for. If you like hiking, consider picking up a hiking book.

Not sure how far you want to travel, but in Burlington there is the Montshire museum. In St. J there is the Atheneum and also the Fairbanks museum. Lots of places to swim (marshfield resevoir, nichols pond in Hardwick, Joes pond in Danville (all good for kayaking as well but you need to have one of course)

The Montshire Museum is in Norwich Vermont. Not Burlington. Both Burlington and Norwich are over an hour from Marshfield.

There are two ways to summit Owlshead Mountain. You can drive to the lot that is 1/10 of a mile away from the top or you can start from the New Discovery Campground - a nice climb - and quite beautiful. Not short at all.
